Ottawa Yacht Tours · Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Choose & book

Which tour should I choose?

Choose a private charter for your own group (1, 1.5 or 2 hours), or a shared 1-hour tour if you prefer individual tickets. Solo guests are welcome; a shared departure needs at least two tickets booked in total. We also offer fireworks nights and 2- or 3-hour corporate packages.

How much do tours cost?

Shared tours start at $79 per person; private charters start at $399 for the whole yacht, not per person. Prices depend on the day, duration and experience. Taxes, booking fees and optional extras are additional; you can see the total before confirming.

What’s included in my tour?

Every yacht comes with a Captain and First Mate, plus fuel, marina fees and required passenger insurance. A private charter reserves the yacht for your group; shared tours include other guests. Food and drinks are extra unless they’re specifically included in your package.

How many guests can come?

Each yacht accommodates up to 12 guests. Reserving both yachts accommodates up to 24 guests. Children and infants count toward these limits.

How do I book?

Choose your experience, date, guest count and any extras, then complete checkout through FareHarbor. A 50% deposit reserves a private charter; follow the payment details in your confirmation. Returning guests can request 10% off the ticket or yacht rental price at checkout, subject to verification; extras are excluded and offers cannot be combined.

Can I request the bigger yacht?

Yes. When booking a private charter, you can request our larger 42-foot yacht, The Everly. The upgrade costs $79 for 1 hour, $119 for 1.5 hours or $159 for 2 hours, plus taxes and fees. If the larger yacht is unavailable, we refund the upgrade. Booking both yachts reserves The Everly and Dolce Far Niente.

When are the fireworks tours?

Our 2027 fireworks nights are July 1, 14, 28 and 31, and August 4, 7, 11 and 14. Choose individual tickets or reserve a private yacht; prices vary by date. The opening and closing nights of the Casino du Lac-Leamy international fireworks competition are guest favourites and tend to sell out quickly, so book early.

Changes & weather

Can I change my booking?

Date or time changes requested 48 hours or more before departure have no change fee, subject to availability. Within 48 hours, a 20% fee (minimum $25), plus taxes, normally applies. Active Trip Protection includes one fee-free change. A request is not confirmed until we approve it.

Can I cancel for a refund?

For direct bookings, cancelling at least 48 hours before departure normally qualifies for a refund, subject to policy exclusions such as unrecoverable food or decoration costs. Within 48 hours, the yacht rental or ticket is normally non-refundable unless you have active Trip Protection and a qualifying reason. Reseller tickets follow the reseller’s terms.

What does Trip Protection cover?

It costs 10% of the rental or ticket price, plus taxes, and must be requested when booking or purchased within 24 hours afterward. Coverage begins only once payment is confirmed. It includes one fee-free date/time change and cancellation coverage for qualifying unexpected illness, injury or a serious family emergency; documentation may be required. It does not cover changed minds, weather preferences or no-shows. The protection fee is non-refundable.

What if it rains?

Light rain does not automatically cancel a tour. Our crew assesses the conditions; lightning, thunder or unsafe winds may require a delay or cancellation. We may wait on the covered terrace while conditions are reassessed. If a tour operates and you choose not to attend, the guest cancellation policy applies.

What if you cancel our tour?

If Ottawa Yacht Tours cancels, you may choose a refund or a credit for a future tour, according to the published policy. Trip Protection fees are non-refundable, and unrecoverable food or decoration costs may still apply.

Before you board

Where do we board and park?

Board at Le Pirate Marina, 1067 Jacques-Cartier Street, Gatineau, QC J8T 3W2—not in downtown Ottawa. Free public parking is available a short walk away at 1089 Jacques-Cartier Street, Gatineau, QC J8T 6H4.

When should we arrive?

Arrive at least 15 minutes before your confirmed departure time. Wait on the sidewalk outside the marina entrance—do not enter the docks. Our crew will check the passenger list and escort everyone to the yacht.

Who needs digital check-in?

Every adult must complete their own online check-in before arriving, using government-issued photo ID. Children under 18 are included in an adult’s check-in (up to four per adult). A booking confirmation does not check in your guests, and guests without completed check-in cannot board.

What if we arrive late?

Shared tours depart on schedule and cannot wait for late guests. A private charter may leave later, but still ends at its originally scheduled time. An extension may be possible with the Captain’s approval and yacht/crew availability, at $99 plus taxes per 15 minutes.

What should we wear?

Dress for conditions on the river and bring a light layer if it may be cool. Avoid high heels or shoes that mark the deck. Guests remove shoes and socks onboard unless the crew directs otherwise; soft-soled, non-marking boat shoes are permitted. Review the guest rules during digital check-in.

Food & celebrations

Can we bring food or drinks?

No outside food or beverages are permitted, including cake and personal bottled water. Our catered menu and licensed onboard bar provide the food and drinks for your tour. Outside decorations are also not allowed.

How do we order food or extras?

Choose from charcuterie, sandwiches, chocolate cake and celebration decorations when booking or through our online food-ordering form afterward. Food and decorations must be ordered at least 48 hours before departure; a 50% deposit is required. Decorations are offered on private and corporate charters only.

What drinks are available?

Our licensed bar serves wine, cocktails, craft beer, Prosecco, soft drinks and water. Prosecco is always stocked on both yachts, so no advance order is needed. You can, however, prepay for a bottle as a surprise for someone. Other drinks are selected onboard and settled at the end of the tour. Taxes and an 18% gratuity apply to purchased food and drinks.

Can we celebrate onboard?

Absolutely. Private charters work well for birthdays, anniversaries and other celebrations. We can provide decorations for $99 plus taxes, ordered at least 48 hours ahead, and private-charter guests can play their own music on their yacht’s Bose sound system via Bluetooth. Decorations are not offered with individual shared-tour tickets.

Onboard & groups

Can children come aboard?

Yes. Children and infants are welcome and count toward yacht capacity. Toddlers and small children must wear a properly fitted lifejacket throughout the tour. Accompanying adults remain responsible for their supervision and must follow the crew’s safety directions.

Are there washrooms onboard?

Yes, each yacht has a washroom. Holding-tank capacity is limited, so please use the washrooms at Le Pirate Restaurant, opposite the marina, before boarding when possible.

Is boarding wheelchair-accessible?

The docks and yachts are not fully wheelchair-accessible. Please contact us before booking to discuss your mobility needs and what arrangements may be possible.

What do corporate packages include?

Our 2- and 3-hour private corporate packages include a Captain and First Mate on each yacht, one catered food portion per guest, plus two alcoholic drinks per guest for 2 hours or three for 3 hours. Soda and water are included. There’s no minimum guest count; one yacht accommodates up to 12, or both up to 24.

    TERMS & CONDITIONS

    GUEST RULES

    1. Follow safety instructions. Listen to the safety briefing and follow the Captain’s and crew’s instructions. In an emergency, follow instructions immediately. Wait for crew assistance when boarding and disembarking, and move carefully on decks and steps.

    2. Supervise children. Toddlers and small children must wear an appropriately fitted lifejacket throughout the tour. The accompanying adult is responsible for supervising them. All guests must follow the Captain’s instructions about wearing lifejackets.

    3. Respect the crew and other guests. We have zero tolerance for unsafe, abusive or disruptive behaviour, or excessive intoxication. Boarding will be refused if you arrive intoxicated. Misconduct during the tour may result in removal at the nearest marina or the cruise ending early, without refund. In either case, police will be called to meet the yacht. The Captain has final authority over vessel operations and passenger safety.

    4. No swimming or water entry. Swimming and entering the water are prohibited. In an emergency, follow the Captain’s instructions.

    5. Follow onboard rules. No outside food, cake, drinks, bottled water or decorations. No smoking, vaping or recreational drug use onboard or on the docks. Remove shoes and socks after boarding unless the crew instructs otherwise; soft-soled, non-marking boat shoes are permitted. No heels or marking soles.

    6. Care for yourself, the yacht and the river. Stay hydrated and tell the crew if you feel unwell. Apply sunscreen before boarding, not onboard. No confetti, glitter or party poppers. Never throw anything overboard; hand rubbish to the crew.

For cancellation, qualifying reasons are unexpected illness, injury or a serious family emergency preventing attendance. Reasonable supporting documentation may be required.

Changes of mind and weather preferences are not covered for cancellation. No-shows are excluded. Protection is unavailable for reseller tickets. The protection fee and its taxes are never refunded, including if we cancel.

We decide whether conditions are safe to operate. If we operate and you choose not to attend, the guest cancellation terms apply. No-shows receive no refund or credit.

          Fine print

Rental and decoration orders require a 50% deposit; their balances are due before departure. Private-charter food and drink charges are settled at tour’s end by Square or cash, individually or as one group. Corporate-package and public-tour payments follow the instructions in your confirmation.

We assess safety at the marina and along the route. Rain, clouds, cooler temperatures or forecasts alone do not mean cancellation. Follow the arrival and late-arrival rules in your confirmation email.
